Welcome back from the Thanksgiving weekend! I’ve already got some holiday ideas to create and in progress, but for now, enjoy part two of my trip to LA.

I wouldn’t travel across the country for just anyone.  The groom in this bright and beautiful wedding has been a close friends of mine all the way from the depths of early high school. When we were all awkward and full of baby fat and feelings. I think there’s something really special about keeping in touch closely with friends for over a decade. Granted, social media has made this a lot easier, but it’s actually investing in each other’s lives that takes it a step beyond ‘liking’ the pictures of dinner posted every other day.

There’s nothing like packing the sandals you’ve long put away for the season to really make you feel like you’re going to California.  Normally in situations like this (going to a destination for a friends wedding) my husband and I try and save money and get in and out of that destination as fast as possible.  But this time was different.  My husband had never been to California, and I’d been years ago for barely three days. This, along with having friends graciously let us stay with them, allowed us to make an ultra long weekend out of this trip to my high school friend’s wedding. We were able to enjoy the sun and the food and our friends without feeling rushed. And even as we sat on the plane back to NYC and wished we could spend at least a week more in LA, we felt like we had actually gotten a break from the city and our lives, which have proved to be quite hectic for almost a year straight now.

For a bit, I was at a loss of what to bake this week. Time is finally beginning to creep back into my life. Which has been exciting, but also makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong if you don’t have have three things you’re supposed to be accomplishing at that moment. However, because I wasn’t running around like a total chicken with my head cut off, I wanted to make something legit.

Everyone is obsessed with pumpkin crap this time of year, aren’t they? I was thinking about that. I like some pumpkin themed things here and there too, but some people basically bathe in it this time of year. Well because of this intense love, I thought about flavor staples of fall. Apple Cider. Sweet Potatoes. Pumpkin – Gotta have it somewhere. In your coffee or pie or in my case, mousse. I complimented my pumpkin mousse with an edible dish made of gingersnap cookie.
