Stone Fruit Galette | Domestic Batch

8.11.16

Tis the season for stone fruit.  Sweet apricots, and nectarines, and plucots (???) and plums.  I think it’s telling what everyone is craving when two of my friends posted pictures of basically this same galette over the past 24 hours before I posted it on my blog.  We all want easy dessert, and we want them filled with stone fruit! Listen to the people!! Easy crust, easy filling, beautiful dessert. That is a routine I can get on board with.  This dessert is almost as perfect as the 50’s inspired outfit to go with it.  Both just enough sweet, with a touch of sass. And to keep it in sync with the previous post, I kept the same color scheme in my outfit, I only flip-flopped where they colors go.  If you don’t own a yellow skirt, you have some homework.

Savory Galette | Domestic Batch

8.9.16

I have dubbed this week Galette Week!  You’ll get sweet and savory, big and small, all types of flavors, the sky is the limit! Galettes are a great choice for the summer when rolling out pie dough and keeping it perfect seems nearly impossible in the high summer temperatures.  A galette (or crostata), is a lazy pie.  I made a berry one months ago and it was so easy, it’s a wonder I don’t make them more often. And they don’t always have to be sweet! I’m starting this week with a savory galette, where everything inside is meant for each other, similar to the Stitch Fix outfit in this post.  I received yet another fix where I bought EVERYTHING because it was so spot on.  Two items in my Stitch Fix box went together like gangbusters, just like ricotta, chicken and artichokes. Not convinced? Well carry on and I’ll do my best to prove my point.

8.5.16

So as I stated last week, the mug cake chapter has come to a close.  But as I’m ready to move on, this endeavor pointed out that I’ve been doing these for so many months, I  can actually have a countdown of the best ones.  There were plenty to pick and chose from and a lot of these cakes where very dense, some had sharp pops of flavor I couldn’t get enough of (resulting in a mug that was scraped clean), and some had ingredients that I think should never be put in a mug cake.  If I told you I remembered every bite of every mug cake I’ve eaten over the past several months I’d be lying. But the nice thing is I know I don’t lie in my posts. While I didn’t really shit-talk too many of these cakes, I was very clear and honest about the ones I loved.  And because of that, looking through my old posts, I created the list of top 5 for these individual treats. I hope you resvisit them, as I know I will when I need a snack or have a sweet-tooth dessert craving for one.
