Striped Meringue Kisses | Domestic B(i)atch

8.8.17

I am not great when it comes to leftovers. If we haven’t consumed all of dinner, we both really have the best intentions of eating it for lunch that week, or on another night.  Usually though, it just hangs out in one of my tupperware containers until we do a deep clean of the fridge and have to smell what it is to remember what it was. We’re working on getting better at it. However, this doesn’t apply to my baking.  I often have extra of at least one component. It sits there staring at me.  But unlike home cooked dinner, I am always determined to make something out of leftover frosting, or curd, or in this case, extra meringues from the cake I made.  After choosing the prettiest ones for the top of the cake I had the rest just hard chilling with no purpose. The meringue can be eaten on its own, sure, but HOW BORING. Gotta amp it up.  Dip it on some chocolate and then into some crunchiness for an exciting cookie I can get on board with.

School's Out | Domestic B(i)atch

6.15.17

I’m going to stick with this school theme because I like it! I remember when school lasted until the second week of June and it felt like forever, and everyone was just staring at the clock on the last day waiting for the end of class to run out and scream “No more teachers, no more books!” on the bus home. I remember how in elementary school the kids who were super brave would actually sing the world “hell” at the end of that song. I was not one of those kids. Teacher’s pet for days.  When I was a kid, there was a thing where people would bring silly string and spray everyone on the last day of school. Eventually we had our bags checked on the last day to make sure we didn’t have any. But then friends would bring it to us after we were released and it happened anyway. The 90s feel so far away and harmless now.

A Colorful Summer | Domestic B(i)atch

6.13.17

It is HOT. I don’t think there’s any escape now.  No more cold snaps for us, we’re all in.  And I don’t mind it. Spending a good part of my early life in the south has prepared me for the high temperatures and the constant sweating.  Just an excuse for me to wear as little makeup as possible and start making strawberry rhubarb pies.  And eat ice cream for breakfast.  And wearing bold colors and rompers and flowy maxi dresses. This outfit is straight outta Stitch Fix. The bright comfy t-shirt has a fun pattern on the back, and I can’t help but love this skirt which I featured a little while ago. It’s nice to walk around with a big burst of color.
