Fig and Honeycomb Ice Cream | Domestic B(i)atch

9.19.17

Hiatus achievement: unlocked.  I’m back! Fall has begun and life has really picked up.  Rehearsals have started for the tour I’m doing and I’m being reminded what it’s like to play pretend for 8 hours a day.  It’s the best kind of exhausting.  It does feel pretty incredible to be in a room with hardworking actors who all want the best show possible. Maybe we’ll want to kill each other by December, but as of now, we’re all in this together.  I head out for the first leg of our travels on October 2nd, so I’m hoping to get in another few posts before I’m away from home for a bit.

Chai Olive Oil Cake | Domestic B(i)atch

12.2.16

Happy Friday!!! I’ve decided to revisit pears because I realized after making my dessert lasagna, that I actually really enjoy pear desserts. But I took a whole new turn on it.  I wanted to poach them. But what to do with them after that? How about “pair” (hehe) them with a spicy chai cake? Chai is one of those spice mixtures that’s perfect for the fall and winter.  I’m not a huge tea drinker, I’m a coffee cheerleader through and through.  But sometimes, on occasion, I need a little chai in my life.  I’ll have some chai tea with milk, or treat myself to a chai latte. It is surprisingly difficult to find chai spice in stores, though it is available to buy online.  But I made my own.  And it helped make an earthy, fragrant, wonderfully moist cake.  Did I mention this was my first time making an olive oil cake? I’m a huge fan.  While I read a bunch of reviews that said it was “too oily” for their taste I thought it was divine.  And I cannot believe how delicious a cake can be without any butter! This cake doesn’t even need a mixer, only two bowls! How easy is that?! Cray cray.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies | Domestic B(i)atch

11.21.16

Thanksgiving week begins! Last week was really something.  I’m usually someone who tries to self-medicate as much as possible.  If I feel something coming on I’ll rest and drink lots of fluids, do some light yoga or a short jog to help sweat it out and go about my business.  I haven’t been seriously ill in years.  But after four days with no letting up I knew this was something worse.  Not just a bug.  So I dragged myself to Urgent Care and come to find out, I have walking pneumonia!!! Woo Hoo! At least I’m not crazy for thinking this was a little more extreme than I’ve felt in the past. Modern medicine, am I right??? I went from standing up and going to the bathroom as the achievement of the day, to cleaning my whole apartment, and making an epic spread for my lady slumber party on Saturday!!! My husband had to travel out of the country this past week for work, which made being sick even grosser, but also gave me a really good excuse to have some girlfriends over, pour some wine, watch Kate Hudson, and eat snacks. This weekend means Thanksgiving is now days away, and I had to make pumpkin cookies! Too much pumpkin recently? Too bad! Welcome to November!!! Muahahahaha!!!
