I Got to Bag it Up

April BLIZZARDS bring May flowers.  That’s the saying right?! Has NYC gotten the memo about spring?? We legit had a snowstorm about a week ago, it’s insane.  I keep preparing to break out all my cute dresses, and blouses, and skirts, and I mean, not to sound too ambitious but maybe even SHORTS? And yet……I’m met with blustery winds, rain, or flurries, all requiring boots and thick sweaters. If I was living my life a little more north I’d expect this to be normal, but in New York, everyone is ready and waiting for the weather to warm up.

So what to do when I want to venture away from chunky sweaters and skinny jeans with temperatures still below 50 degrees?  Break out a spring dress and throw a cardigan over it.  The weather may require layers, but at least when your dress is cream colored with birds on it there’s some hint of encouragement that spring is on the way.  This is actually one of my favorite dresses and to be able to wear it when it’s chilly out gave me a pep in my step.

Most importantly, I wanted to show off my new bag. It was a gift from my husband for our third wedding anniversary.  I cannot believe it’s already been three years. (OMG you want to see all the pictures from my wedding?? You can go here, or here or here!).

Though our wedding was fun and a little funky, the one traditional aspect I’ve fallen in love with is giving gifts that correspond with what each new year of marriage represents (i.e. Year 1 = Paper, Year 2 = Cotton).  It creates inspiration to look for out-of-the-box ideas, and maybe look for something we wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.  Year 3 is Leather.  I was tempted to get a little saucy considering the theme, but I chickened out and got Phil a guitar strap.  Phil got me this killer bag from Madewell.  My current bag (which I have loved super hard) was from Everlane, and was reaching the end of its rope after being used for years.  I was sad to say goodbye but more than ready for a replacement.  And of course because my husband is a baller, he knew it was time.  He also knew I needed a bag to carry all the things, all day, all the time.  New Yorkers carry tons of shit around with them because we leave the house in the early morning and don’t walk back in the door until the moon is out. I carry normal things like any lady, but I also tote around a water bottle, a book to read during commuting, sometimes a script, or a folder with head shots and resumes if I’m headed to an audition at some point.  And I need a bag that can hold up carrying all these things. So Phil pretty much nailed it with this guy.  It’s roomy, sturdy, and gosh darn attractive.
